Cold sores are related to shingles, and both can be treated by lysine. I had no idea that that was the case. Here is my story about how I learned that fact.
A few years back we moved our family to sunny Arizona. Now if you have ever lived there you know that summer can be really hot. So most of the summer is spent with the kids at the pool.
A pool of water is pretty much the only way to be outside and stay cool. Naturally, children have a blast in the pools and it can be a nice way for moms to spend with their little ones. Well, for us, this particular summer was going "swimmingly" until the one fateful day.
On this particular day, my daughter was going to a pool party she had been invited to. I took her there and stayed because I needed to keep an eye on her as she was not a fully confident swimmer. I wasn't in the pool and therefore was not cooling off. In the heat I began to feel the unpleasant sensation of burning on the skin of my belly. It was so sharp I checked to see if it was a bug or wasp that was stinging or biting me. There was no such creature.
Once I arrived home I looked at the area of my stomach that was feeling so strange. I noticed three spots that looked like small blisters. I thought maybe I was being stung or bitten by bugs, but quickly saw that I wasn't.
At that point I remembered the discussion I'd had with neighbor who had been quite sick. She said she had the shingles virus and had shown me the outbreak of red blisters on her arm. My aunt also suffered from a shingles virus outbreak sometime back. I concluded that this is what I had. On further research I confirmed it and learned that it is in the same virus family as cold sores because lysine can also treat shingles.
