If you suffer from a nail fungus, you are probably trying to find a decent product that works to clear it up as soon as possible. Symptoms of nail fungus include yellowing of the nail, and a thickening. It might also have an unpleasant odor. You can become affected by a nail fungus if you spend time in damp places like a gym, pool or spa. Athlete's and people who wear tight fitting shoes are at an extra risk for developing a nail fungus. To avoid this , make sure you thoroughly dry your feet.

As fungal nail infections are on the rise and seen as common ailment now it seems easy to blame salons for being responsible. More and more we see people who have had an infection that has spread to all ten toes but the causative mechanism is not necessarily a bad pedicure. The organisms responsible for infections are present almost everywhere and although they do not "crawl under" the toe nail to infect it, it is rarely a localized phenomenon even after an infection occurs after sustaining an injury.

Listerine mixed with vinegar is also a good solution you can use as foot soak to treat toenail fungus. The antiseptic property of Listerine mixed with the acidic nature of vinegar can work together in killing the toenail infection. Vinegar is used to treat toenail fungus based on the theory that fungi cannot survive in an acidic environment. Therefore, adding vinegar to Listerine results to a solution that is powerful enough to treat toenail fungus. A half and half solution is recommended.

Nail fungus infection can only occur under conditions in which the nail hard surface made of keratin is made soft. This can happen due to several reasons. Some of the common reasons include nail polish which is always placed on the nail thus preventing the aeration and encouraging establishment of the fungal colony. Inappropriate hygiene of the feet will also lead to wet conditions which allow the enzymes of the fungi to act in the medium and the eventual formation of the roots of the fungi. Other causes include softening of the hardened part of the nail by losing the keratin part, this may be due to physical abrasion or use of chemicals; poor diet and ill health leading to low immunity against fungal infection among others.

If you want to make sure that your foot is protected, you can put a bandage around the affected toe. Make sure to submit your foot for a bath every night to prevent infection. In case you are experiencing mild pain due to the ingrown, you can apply a painkiller gel to the affected area. However, take note that most of these gels cause a burning sensation so make sure that you can bear with it. You can also opt for OTC pain relievers but make it certain that you discuss this with your physician prior to consumption.

One last home remedy is to use Isopropyl Alcohol, by rubbing it in where the nail shows signs of fungus. It's said to take a few days of doing this before you notice any change.

There are other scenarios that can make you more prone to fungal nail infection. The overuse of antibiotics is known to damage healthy gut flora and can allow the overgrowth of fungus. Some anti inflammatory drugs cause incompletely digested food to enter the bloodstream which will end up suppressing the body's immune system. Other conditions which can cause issues are things like digestive disorders, diabetes, chronic adrenal stress and heavy metal toxicity.

If you do notice any of these problems you may want to use a nail fungus solution which will naturally deal with the problem and create nails that you aren't afraid to show off in public. The earlier it is discovered the quicker it will be to treat.
